What I am thinking this Memorial Day

Many years ago a man fought in the war. He went off to fight for his country. Then he came home and married. They had 8 children, 4 sons and 4 daughters. One of those sons had 1 son and 3 daughters. 1 of those daughters is me. My grandfather fought in the war and survived. Because he survived I was born.

There are many many men and women for whom the story was not so rosy. Many men went off to war to fight for their country and never returned. There are many children and grandchildren who were never born because of a war. There are many children who grew up without a father or mother because of a war. And many people have grieved lost loved ones.

On this day, Memorial Day, we remember those people who were lost in service to our country. I want to thank you to all those who have lost loved ones. Thank you for your sacrifice. I am so grateful to live in a country that has so many freedoms. I am so sorry for your loss.

How to Take Prenatal Vitamins When You Can't Swallow Pills and a Premama Prenatal Supplement Review! #DrinkPremama #IC #ad

This post was sponsored by Premama as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

When I was young I couldn't swallow pills. And I also have always wanted to have children. I don't remember exactly when I realized that those things didn't work together, but I am pretty sure it involved a movie or commercial talking about how gigantic prenatal vitamins were. I was shocked, in order to have a healthy baby I would have to swallow huge pills?  I couldn't even swallow a tictac. What was I going to do? Fortunately I did learn to swallow pills. But for those who share in the conundrum of wanting to take prenatal vitamins but not being able to take pills there are now great alternatives!

Premama is a multivitamin supplement line that offers complete maternity wellness in drinkable and chewable forms!

Premama's drink mix line includes Fertility Reproductive Support, Essentials Prenatal Vitamins, Essentials + DHA Prenatal Vitamins, and Lactation Support. The Fertility and Essentials drink mixes are unflavored so you can mix them into any cold flavored drink you enjoy (do not heat or warm the drink mixes). They can be mixed into juice, cider, ice tea, smoothies, etc. The Essentials + DHA mix is citrus flavored and the Lactation mix is mixed berry flavored. They can be mixed into a flavored drink or into water. The drink mixes are gluten free, vegetarian or vegan, and non-gmo. Their folic acid levels are similar to prescription prenatal vitamins and as good as or better than other OTC brands (Premama is OTC). They also have Omega-3 fatty acids and non-constipation causing iron that are usually only found in prescription prenatals. These products are formulated to help before, during, and after pregnancy. If you are trying to conceive, currently pregnant, or nursing a baby they have a product for you!

Premama's also has Digestive Aid Prenatal Fiber & Probiotic Chews. They are vanilla caramel flavored, vegetarian, and naturally flavored. They are formulated to help ease constipation and bloating, and support a healthy immune system. I really wanted to try the chews because they look so yummy, but the contain soy and I am intolerant to soy :(.

My Experience

I tried the Essentials and Lactation drink mixes. I tried Essentials mixed in Apple Cider and I couldn't even tell it was there. I was amazed! I am enjoying drinking these every day. I tried Lactation with water to see how it tastes by itself because it is berry flavor. If you are used to supplement drinks it is pretty good, and it is not chalky! If you don't like supplement drinks it would be good mixed in with juice, ice tea, or smoothies. It would be really amazing in smoothies! I will be saving the rest of the Lactation mixes for after I deliver in 4-6 weeks :).

I got my Premama products at Meijers, they are in the vitamin section. I found them with the other prenatal supplements. The Meijer I went to had a great selection! Oh and they are on sale at Meijer through September 25! Go in right now and get $3-5 off depending on the product. Get it on sale now!

Find Premama at a store near you using their store locator.

You can also get a free sample of Lactation or Fertility through September 29th on their facebook giveaway! Enter to win by completing two social media actions.

Eat, Drink, and Be Merry

You know the saying "Eat, drink, and be merry"? Did you know that it is from the bible? Did you know that the next line is "For tomorrow we will die" (Is 22:13). I knew those things but I learned something new about that passage tonight.

In Isaiah 22 God is talking about the defenses that the Israelites put up around their city, knowing that their old defenses, and probably their new ones were not good enough to save them.

So they decided to have a party.

This is the part that blows my mind. They really thought they were going to die. They were sure that they were going to die.

And they decided to eat and drink and engage in revelry.

God had asked them to weep and wail, to tear out their hair and to put on sack cloth (vs 12). If they had done as God asked maybe they wouldn't have died tomorrow.

God was begging them to turn to him. But that still didn't change their minds or actions.

In verse 8-11 God describes the defenses that they had built up and then says "but you did not look to the One who made it, or have regard for the One who planned it long ago."

God made everything. Including the things that I am hiding behind or building up to defend me. I need to look to the maker of these things for my true defense.

I'm sorry God for looking to the things you have made, instead of looking to you for defense. Please help me remember to always look to you. Thank you for being there for me always! I love you!

Why Not Me?

When I'm struggling with something the temptation is often to ask why? or why me? But I think we need to start asking why not? or why not me?

We live in a fallen world. There are struggles. Everyone struggles. What makes me so special that I should not struggle or that I should not have this struggle? God showed me this last week.

I struggle with insomnia.

It manifests itself in different ways on different nights. Sometimes I can't fall asleep. Sometimes I can't stay asleep. Sometimes I can't go back to sleep when I wake up. Lately it's been I wake up in the night and can't fall asleep for up to hours.

It all boils down to one statement; I'm tired.

One night I was up for 3 to 4 hours. When I had been awake for over 2 hours, and had already tried all my usual tricks, I looked at the clock and asked whhhyyyy?

And then God said why not? Why not me? What makes me so special? Why shouldn't I struggle?

Another great question is: What is God trying to show me through this struggle?

One thing i have found is that God is giving me a special time to be with him in the middle of the night. I have a time of quiet, which is rare of my busy life with 3 kids under 4. And I have the privilege of spending it with him.

My response needs to be (and sometimes is :)); Thank you God for giving me this special time with you.

A Role Model for Change #savoringtimewithGod

I am going through the devotional book Savor, by Shauna Niequist with my women's bible study. I thought the questions were so great and thought provoking that I wanted to share them and my answers with you. I would love to hear your answers in the comments or if you blog about them too please post your link in the comments!

June 17 p182

Q. Who has shown you how to handle change courageously, thoughtfully, proactively? How have you followed their example? Is there any area of your life in which you need to consider making a change?

A. I guess my parents. I never really thought about it because they kinda lead by example/forcing us into it :). We moved several times throughout my growing up years. My dad changed not only jobs but entire lines of work. My mom went from a stay at home mom to a working mom and has gone through several job changes. All of that to bring us to a better place in life, either because something wasn't working, was going to stop working, or something else would work better.

I don't know if this is because of the upheaval, or just my personality, but I am e type of person who thrives on change. If everything stays the same I get bored. So I have followed their example. My husband and I have moved 3 times in our almost 7 years of marriage. We've had 3 kids. I tended to switch jobs fairly regularly when it wasn't working for me anymore (now I am a stay at home mom). My husband has had a couple different jobs in that same 7 yr period, and we weathered the unchosen changes well. We have also gone through the sad changes of losing loved ones. I started a blog that didn't have a specific theme so I could change what I wrote about. We started a small hobby farm. We are constantly remodeling, rearranging, and redecorating our home. We are constantly working to make sure our lives are well lived.

Honestly as far as future changes, I think we are good. We will continue the constant changes of home and family. But for the big things I think we are in the right place right now. One specific thing I need to work on changing is organization. And we are working on what exactly God wants us to do mission wise.

What about you? Do you handle change well? Is there anything you need to change?

What Connects Me To God #savoringtimewithGod

I am going through the devotional book Savor, by Shauna Niequist with my women's bible study. I thought the questions were so great and thought provoking that I wanted to share them and my answers with you. I would love to hear your answers in the comments or if you blog about them too please post your link in the comments!

June 9 p 174

Q. God is endlessly creative in how he shares his presence with each of us. And the specific way he chooses to connect with you matters. What is the tie that binds you to God?

A. Peace, quiet, alone time, time with people, deep conversations with girlfriends, loving my kids, sometimes some songs, deep abiding faith and love, my garden, my chickens, obeying, seeing God working in circumstances

The list above is what came to mind when I asked myself how I have seen and felt connected to God lately. As you can see it is widely varied. I was trying to figure out what one thing binds me to God and realized that it is not one thing, it is many things. I see God all around me, in many parts of my life. And he speaks to me in many ways, in the quiet, through the voice of a friend, in my garden, through my husband, etc.

But there is one thing that really ties my to God and that is inside of me. One of my spiritual gifts is faith. It took me forever to realize that that is a spiritual gift, not something I learned, but something I was given. But I have it. It is deep inside of me, and no matter the circumstances in life or around me I still have it. I believe in God, I believe that he is there, that he loves me, that what he says in the bible is true. I believe. That's it, I just believe. I can't explain it, I didn't put it there, it is just there. I have absolute faith in God. And that is the tie that most binds me to God.

But I am so thankful for all the other ways he speaks to me too! How do you connect with God? How does he speak to you?

How do I feel about my body? #savoringtimewithGod

I am going through the devotional book Savor, by Shauna Niequist with my women's bible study. I thought the questions were so great and thought provoking that I wanted to share them and my answers with you. I would love to hear your answers in the comments or if you blog about them too please post your link in the comments!

June 5 p 169
Q. How do you feel about your body? Do you feel connected to it? Do you feel respect for it? How do you nurture it? How do you challenge it?
A. How do I feel about my body? Hmm this is an interesting question. I've never really thought about it. I think most of the time I feel that my body is just there. It just exists. It is what it is. Except when it doesn't work right or hurts, then I feel annoyed at it or whatever hurt it. A lot of times I groan from being achy but I still don't really think about my body. It is just there and it is me so why would I think about it as if it is something separate? So yes, I feel connected to it. (Shauna talks in the devotional about feeling disconnect between her body and her soul).

Do I feel respect for it? I'm not sure if I respect it, because like I said, it is me. I respect myself, I think we'll of myself so in that way I respect my body, because it is part of myself. I don't usually feel thankful for my body because it is just a part of me, like I said. But now I am thinking about several friends and family members who have bodies that don't work like mine do. Sure there are times when my body doesn't work the way I want it to, but I have full use of all my limbs so I should be thankful for that. Thank you God for my body.

How do I nurture it? Well I try to eat healthy. I sleep as much as my body and my kids and my schedule will let me. I don't do much exercise besides chasing 3 kids around. I need to stretch more, I get stiff a lot these days. I work outside in the garden with fresh air. I get as much peace as my kids will let me :). I don't know, is all that nurturing my body? It is nurturing me.

How do I challenge it? The same way I challenge the rest of me. I do what i think is good to do for me. Have I ever specifically challenged my body? Not that I can remember. Other than pregnancy, childbirth, and nursing. Does that count?

Physical Difficulty #savoringtimewithGod

I am going through the devotional book Savor, by Shauna Niequist with my women's bible study. I thought the questions were so great and thought provoking that I wanted to share them and my answers with you. I would love to hear your answers in the comments or if you blog about them too please post your link in the comments!

June 4 p 168

Q. Have you ever run a marathon, or fulfilled some other physical goal that pushed you beyond what you had thought you could do? What did you learn from that process?

A. Well I gave birth to 3 babies. And nursed them.

Before the first one I thought it would all be fine and easy. I was planning to have an epidural and breastfeeding is natural, right? I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I didn't know how hard it would be. When my epidural didn't work right with my first two I learned how excruciating labor and child birth could be. At one point with my first I honestly wasn't sure how I would make it. But I did make it, and went on to birth 2 more children. I learned I am capable even if it is horribly hard. I also learned that I can endure horrible pain for a short time period as long as there is an end in sight. But even in that moment when I can't see the end I would still choose to do it all over again for my precious children. I guess I learned how strong I am?

Nursing babies took a whole different level of strength. I wrote about this before, but Nursing my first was incredibly hard. It was very painful. Problems with latch and neither of us knew what to do. In the beginning, for the first several months I daydreamed at every feeding about switching to a bottle. I sometimes wished that the doctor would find a medical reason for me to stop breastfeeding and switch to formula. (That sounds horrible, and I cringe writing that, but it is true). There were times I honestly didn't know if I would finish the week nursing. But I made it through. I made it to a year nursing both my first and second (still working on my 3rd). It started being easy sometime between 3 and 6 months (I can't remember for sure when, that whole time is a little fuzzy). Again I learned how strong I am. I can make it through. I learned to take the hard things 1 thing at a time, (I will make it through this one feeding don't think about the next one). I learned that pushing through one hard thing may make the next one a little easier (the 2nd and 3rd have been easier for nursing, one naturally and 1 with the help of a tongue tie being clipped). I learned that it is ok to lean on something to help you make it through (I doubt I would have made it through without nipple shields, I've used them with all 3 and they are a life saver!). I learned that hard things are only a season. I learned that God is right there with me through those hard seasons

Our Garden This Year - Garden Tour

You may have noticed that it has been a while since I posted (you may not have, I know how it is with a busy life :)).

The reason for the long break in posting is because the Random family has moved! We moved 5 minutes north of where we were before but it was just enough to get us out into the country. We absolutely love our new house. It is almost twice as big as our old house (if you count the basement, which we do because it is totally usable). And we now have 3/4 acre of land for the kids and us to play with. We have a huge garden this year and we have ambitious plans to have chickens next year and possibly a sheep, cow, or goat at some point. We are trying to work our way toward a more self-sustained, nature based life.

We love our new house but it is a lot of work. We are remodeling the kitchen, living room, and bathroom. We are still working on unpacking, and getting everything situated. And I am growing a garden, not just a garden, a huge garden. A garden so big I never thought I would be able to fill it, but I did, and am expanding it.

The house came with a lot of established fruit producing plants 2 apple trees, two pear trees, a cherry tree, a huge grapevine, and lots of raspberry plants and several other plants. And it came with a huge garden plot just waiting to be filled (well tilled and filled since by the time i got around to working the garden the weeds had taken off like crazy, thank goodness my mom owns a tiller).

I have done a lot of work in the garden and I am very proud of how well it is doing so I might just post about it regularly (or I might not because I am crazy busy working on it. On days where I can't work in the garden I try to go out once a day just to look at everything. It is so peaceful and God filled, and I cant believe it is growing and it will give us food. It is amazing how much I enjoy gardening. I hated gardening as a kid, I mean really hated it (I talked about this in my gardening post last year too), I would choose cleaning the house over gardening (because it was quicker and I didn't really understand the benefit of it. But now as an adult who is paying for all that food, and as a health conscious mama who wants to provide delicious additive and allergen free food for her family I see the benefit. And I have found the time to work on it. Little Man 1 is busy and active and loves to be outside. He would play outside all day if I would let him. So in the mornings I take him outside to play (he loves to play with the neighbor kids, we were blessed with built in playmates!) while Little Man 2 takes his morning nap. It works great all around!

Anyways I wanted to give you a little tour of my garden because I am proud of it and I love to show it off because I have worked so hard on it.

My Garden Tour

This is the garden plot. I cant believe how God has blessed us with this huge garden area. And I ccan't believe that I filled it already.
At the front edge of the garden is a small area where I planted dill, 2 sunflowers, and green onions.
Then comes the strawberry plants, this was a recent addition born from a sale on plants at the local nursery. I actually dug up a new row (I have planted so much I needed to expand the garden) and dug up a row of what was supposed to be potatoes that never grew. I still have 11 more strawberry plants that need a home I will probably have to expand the garden by another row or two, or put in a strawberry patch elsewhere. In the middle is kohlrabi that had already been planted there, I put the strawberries in around them.To the right of the strawberries is the cucumber plants.
After the cucumber plants comes the peppers, the sweet peppers in the front and the jalepenos in the back. Then the broccoli and cabbage.
Then comes crazy amounts of winter squash (and I do mean crazy, there are more). These are all either pumpkins or spaghetti squash (I couldn't remember exactly where I planted what, I kept them with their groups when transplanting but I don't know what is what). The other plants that I planted from seed (got the seeds from Walgreen's) didn't grow much so I thought I would need to plant the whole package to get a few plants to grow. Well these seeds I had gotten from a greenhouse while I was buying other plants there. And these seeds took off, I think every one of them grew. And while I was planting those I had spaghetti squash seed drying on my counter (I saved them to roast). And I thought why don't I just toss these in and see if they grow. Well those all grew too, so I have tons of spaghetti squash plants and not a few pumpkin plants (Unfortunately I cant tell them apart :( ). So I transplanted them from their original hills, because there were way too many plants way too close together, into these rows and the ones shown below. I figured some of them might die in the move, but they all seem to have survived it and they are going strong so I am going to have to thin them again. I am thinking about taking them to church and giving them away because I hate to waste a plant. And we may be eating tons of spaghetti squash this winter. Oh and that one row in the middle is radishes. That is the one thing that really grew well from the Walgreen's seeds, I have already harvested a couple of handfuls that is why it is so sparse.
Here are my tomato plants. I have 18 tomato plants. I may have been a little overzealous in tomato plant buying but they came in sets of 4 each and I wanted to try a couple types and my aunt gave me 6 plants (3 different types) so I have a bunch (and yes I already had the 6 from my aunt before I bought my 12 but I really wanted to have those types. I bought early girl (because who doesn't want early tomatoes), sweet 100 (sweet baby tomatoes, love sweet tomatoes, and I love to eat tomatoes for snacks, so little ones are easy for that), and celebrity (they just sounded amazing and fun). So yeah we will have a lot of tomatoes. I plan to can sauce and juice and paste and salsa so they will get used. And what I ant use I will give away to family and friends or possibly if we have tons sell (same with the spaghetti squash, oh and our amazing house does have a root cellar, yay!). And yes, I did learn my lesson about tomato cages being made for a reason last year, but I only have 7 tomato cages and 18 plants. I need to buy more, but I keep forgetting, and I haven't found a good deal yet. I just need to buy them and get them in before the plants get too big, they are already getting pretty big.
I guess I didn't get a wider picture of this. The little plants are zucchini, the big ones to the right are summer squash. These plants did a little more reasonably. I have 8 zucchini plants and 2 summer squash (the summer squash was seeds from Walgreen's, the zucchini seeds were from the nursery). I think I need to spread the zucchini plants out a little.
Here are more of the spaghetti squash or pumpkin plants.
And again more. You see what I mean about them going a little crazy?
Ok, this may just look like a big weed patch but there are 4 watermelon plants in there. You can see the two at the front in their little dug out areas, the other two are at the back. Seriously who has room to plant plants 10 feet apart? The reason this is a weed patch and not tilled is because we didnt think we were going to use it this year. The center of this patch was (for some unknown reason) used as a burn pile and I want to dig up some of the burn remnants (there is some plastic in there) and get them out of the garden before I plant over there, so I put the watermelon plants on the two ends. Kill two birds with one stone, right?
This patch I am especially proud of. Can you guess what it is? It is sweet potatoes. I never even seen sweet potatoes grown before. But Little Man 2 and I love sweet potatoes and they are not the cheapest thing in the quantity that we go through them. So I researched how to grow them and bought some and planted them and they seem to be growing! Yay! I hope they are growing as well under the ground as they are above. I am really curious about what is happening under the ground.
Sorry about my finger in the photo. Apparently I only took one of this photo. I took a lot of photos (like tons, I had to stop myself from showing you pictures of each individual plant, not really but if you are a passionate gardener you know what i mean :) )

This side of my garden is the melons. There are cantaloupe, Watermelon and Honeydew over here, kind of mixed up. there is a row of watermelon in the middle and on either side because I got watermelon plants from 2 different nurseries and I want to see which ones I like better so I can buy those next year. This end of the garden didn't get tilled at first. Like I said, I did not think I would get anywhere near filling the whole garden so we only tilled the front 1/3 of the garden. when we went to till the 2nd time we didn't till the middle because of the burn pile, we tilled the sweet potato patch but it was a lot of work with the weeds having grown so much and it was late and buggy so we just tilled rows for the melons and left weed patches in between. And now the weeds are creeping in the rows again. So I need to weed some more.

You saw my weed control regimen in the previous pictures. I put down cardboard in between the rows and then put grass clippings around the actual plants. But I haven't had enough time and grass clippings to do this end of the garden yet. And as you can see it makes a big difference. There are still weeds at the other end of the garden but not as many as this end (and to be fair like i said this end did not have all the weeds tilled away like the other end did).
Over there in that clover patch are the last 4 watermelon plants (yes, that makes 12 watermelon plants, we like watermelon). You can also see one of our adorable kitties, Faith, and all the random garden wires that haven't been utilized.
This is a small asparagus patch on the other side of the grape vine that came with the house. It must be really old because it has some of the biggest asparagus stems that I have ever seen. Unfortunately it is a super tiny patch and I only got a few asparagus, I think i need to plant some more. All you can see in this picture it the one that went to see, look how huge it is!
In case you think I am a super great gardener who doesn't make mistakes (why would you think that I just showed you my weed patch that passes for a garden :) ) I thought I 'd show you one of my big failures this year. This is my lettuce and kale graveyard. My mom gave me some seedlings and suggested that they needed to not get too much sun so I planted them in front of a window along the back of the house. I am not sure if it was the lesser sunlight or the water situation (I alternated between drowning them and forgetting them since they were away from the main garden) or the untilled, rooty, ground in front of the window or what but these lettuce and kale died very quickly. Fortunately lettuce is not terribly expensive :)
This is our cherry tree I wish I could show you how beautiful the cherries are in the tree, but we already picked the ripest cherries.
This is one of the apple trees, you can see the little apples starting to form.
This is one of the pear trees, you can see the little pears. I can see this tree from my living room window and I enjoy watching the pears grow.
This is the grape vine. As you can see it is huge!
There are lots of raspberries scattered along the grape vine.
I planted 8 little trees around the yard . They grew in my mom's compost pile. We dont know for sure what kind they are it will be fun to see when they get big ans start producing :)
Some of the little trees are dying really quickly. I dont know why some of them are thriving while others are dying. If you know, please tell me :)

So there it is, my beautiful garden. I am so proud of it, and so blessed that God gave it to me. I am trying to do my best with it. I read somewhere that all of gardening is an experiment and I believe it, you try things and they work or they fail, you learn and perfect or move on. I have been learning little bits the last 5 years, and I am sure I will learn even more this year. And I am having a lot of fun with it! Thank you God for this opportunity!

Sorry this post was so long. Are you growing a garden this year? What did you plant? Any advice for me? Any questions (I don't know tons, but I will tell you anything I do know :) ).

5 Random Questions 33

I love answering random questions, and I love reading other people's answers to random questions. So I thought that would make a fun series. I will answer the 5 questions in my post and you can answer them in the comments. We can all get to know each other better, how much more fun can you get?

So here we go 5 Random Questions:

1. Have you ever sleepwalked? yes, when I was little I sleep walked downstairs and tried to use the couch as a toilet (thankfully my dad stopped me), and this isn't sleep walking but it is a funny sleep story - When I was a freshman in college one night my roommate got up to go to the bathroom and I sat up in my sleep and said "What are you doing?" she said "going to the bathroom" and I said "why?". I didn't remember any of it in the morning. It still makes me laugh to picture it :)

2. Can you build a house of cards? I don't know, I never tried

3. What’s your favorite TV advert? The ones that stand out in my mind are those commercials with the two guy being the computer guys Mac and PC and their funny discussions. I still use a pc so they never convinced me, but I always thought they were funny.

4. Can you play poker? I never learned how to play, I'm sure I could if I learned but I have no idea if I would be any good

5. If your parents hated your partner you currently loved would you ditch him or carry on with him despite the protests?
If they hated him I would try to talk it out and see what it was they had an objection to and then decide if I could live with it or not, if they just didn't care for him I would probably carry on and see if something specific came up. If nothing specific, just a mismatch of personalities then I would carry on.

5 Random Questions 32

I love answering random questions, and I love reading other people's answers to random questions. So I thought that would make a fun series. I will answer the 5 questions in my post and you can answer them in the comments. We can all get to know each other better, how much more fun can you get?

So here we go 5 Random Questions:

1. What would be your ideal partner? my husband

2. Have you ever been professionally photographed? for my senior pictures, and for our wedding our photographer was Mr. Random's cousin who is a professional photographer

3. What’s your favorite joke? I don't know if I have a favorite. I enjoy listening to them but I'm not very good at thinking of them

4. What’s been your best present? I have had lots of great presents. One that stands out in my mind was a picture my husband (then boyfriend) gave me of the courtship class that we met in. The class and the picture had happened several years before we started dating, and we had lost contact in the middle so it was special to me that he had it.

5. What’s been your worst present?
Oh, I don't remember, I try not to rank presents as bad presents, all presents are a thoughtful expression of love (or should be :) )

5 Random Questions 30

I love answering random questions, and I love reading other people's answers to random questions. So I thought that would make a fun series. I will answer the 5 questions in my post and you can answer them in the comments. We can all get to know each other better, how much more fun can you get?

So here we go 5 Random Questions:

1. Are you a good judge of character? not really, I tend to look for the best in people so I have a hard time knowing if they are trying to hurt me, I have had a feeling sometimes that I needed to stay away from a person and I did, I have no idea if the feeling was accurate or not, but I listen to it

2. Are you any good at charades? I don't remember, I haven't played it in a long time

3. How long could you go without talking? Depends on who is around, and does typing on the internet count? Maybe a couple hours (am assuming we are not including overnight when I am sleeping)

4. What has been your worst haircut/style? One time I asked for a specific haircut and she did what I asked but it wasn't great with my hair. Fortunately I am not picky and my hair grows fast so I don't worry too much about specific haircuts, and I definitely don't fuss over the style. On Sunday I realized after I got to church that I had forgotten to brush my hair that morning, oh well (I doubt anyone noticed, my hair is thick enough that it generally stays in place, it probably just looked wind blown), which is one of the reasons I rarely fuss over style, even if I make it look great it will be messed up when I go outside, and my hair is too thick to do ponytails, it gives me headaches because it is so heavy, so I just keep it short (chin length) and brush, gel, and go in the morning.

Well that was the longest run on sentence ever, oh well.

5. Can you iceskate? I tried once but we couldn't find skates that fit right for me so I had to sit down for a while after being up for only a few minutes. It was very painful. I would like to try again, and I hope it would work better.

My Review

I asked to be included in this tour because this book sounded interesting to me. And it is super cute! The story is about saying goodnight to a bunch of different animals across the world, but the really fun part is the yoga poses that go with each part of the story. The yoga poses have something to do with the animal (although sometimes that something is a bit of a stretch :) ) and you do them with your child as you are going through the book. I haven't been able to get Little Man to do them with me yet, but I will keep working on him :). I love the idea of doing yoga with my children! Oh and in case you are wondering how a yoga book is a good night book. The poses work their way from more active poses like the kangaroo hop (get those wiggles out!) to the resting pose. At the end of the story they would be laying down in bed. So this would be a great story to read together right before bed. At the end of the story there is a map showing where the animals are from around the world, so it would also be great for talking about geography and the variety of animals found in different places. Then there is a parents section with a list of the poses, animals, countries, a picture of the pose, and some tips for reading and doing the book together with your child. Overall this book is a great resource and I really enjoy it.

The Buzz

"This book has been so amazing for my 2.5 year old daughter! The illustrations are adorable! She is always so rambunctious at bedtime and this lets her get out some of that excess energy. She loves the book so much that this has been one we read every night. It helps my daughter fall asleep faster which means more time for mom in the evenings." ~ 5 Star Review, cwalt047, Amazon

"Another GREAT book!! I used this book for my kids yoga classes for ages 2-5 years old. After a very active yoga class, we read this book and did the yoga poses before the resting portion of the class. My little yogis loved the pictures and saying Good Night to all of the animals one by one. I played a calming song with some animal noises in the background and we were then able to quiet our minds and bodies for the pose of rest. I think this will become a regular pre-resting story for my classes with this age group. My 5 year old son loves to read this book again and again too! Keep the great books coming!" ~ 5 Star Review, Stacy Daniels - Kids Yoga Teacher, Amazon

"What a delightful book to get young children reading and moving in a wind-down, calming story about saying goodnight to the animals of the world. I am a k-12 Reading Certified teacher who blogs about parenting at The Educator's Spin On It. I am big fan of literacy activities that combine movement and geography in a loving parent / child interaction experience and Good night, Animal World does just that. This book would be a great addition to your book shelf." ~ 5 Star Review, Amanda at The Educators' Spin On It, Amazon

I love answering random questions, and I love reading other people's answers to random questions. So I thought that would make a fun series. I will answer the 5 questions in my post and you can answer them in the comments. We can all get to know each other better, how much more fun can you get?

So here we go 5 Random Questions:

1. If you could ask your future self one question what would it be? What choices do you wish you had never made?

2. Do you hold grudges? I try not to, I do sometimes but I work at letting them go

3. If you could breed two animals together to defy the laws of nature what new animal would you create? A dolphin cat, no, an animal that can take care of itself, no work needed by me that produces eggs and delicious meat

4 Do you decorate the outside of your house for christmas? not usually, we put up a few lights around the porch this year, but only had them on a few times, and i have no idea if we will ever take them down.

5. Can you solve sudoko puzzles? the easy level ones, yes, maybe some others, I just don't have time to try. When I had time to try I enjoyed doing the fun shaped ones or alphabet ones
